I’m back on deck running Sister Motion socials after a glorious couple of weeks in Sri Lanka and starting to work my way through the many SD cards I filled whilst out there. 👀
It’s been great to catch up with Claire and the team and it seems lots went down in the two weeks I was away! With plenty of exciting meetings, pending pitches and post production work happening - it feels good to be back. 💥
The team is also prepping for a shoot this weekend so watch this space for some exciting new work 👀

Rest and recharge is important and our social media manager and general rock star @lou.lives.big is off to enjoy some travels around Sri Lanka for a couple of weeks. 🌴
So rather than scheduling posts for her time away (meaning she would inevitably be checking in on socials) we decided to go out of office style instead, so she can fullly immerse herself in all the sunshine and recharge goodness 🙌🏼

In light of Women’s History Month and the remarkable female talent at this year’s Oscars, we would like to shout about a few of the epic wins taken home by Sisters in the filmmaking community. 🙌🏼
While we applaud all winners, we must shed light on the disparities within the production industry for progress to be made.
Did you know that for every female director, there are four male ones? And for cinematographers, the ratio is a staggering one woman to every thirty-two men!
Sadly, these numbers get worse for women of colour. So let’s continue to change the narrative. Join us in advocating for inclusivity, accessibility, and equity in the production industry.
@womeninfilmla has launched the Action50.org campaign to take tangible actions to achieve equity faster. At the current pace, Hollywood will take 140 years to achieve it.

And what a curious day this is.🤔 It appears that although there are the usual panel discussions, fireside chats and other tokenism BS going on today, many of the brands we have been speaking to have been telling us that they are actively not doing anything for IWD this year as they empower women and fight for equality every day…
If this is the case, why is the gender gap still so big? And why aren’t big brands and businesses taking more decisive action to close it?
Some stuff to help understand the issue:
🤦🏼♀️ Even with Barbie as the biggest-grossing film of last year, female representation on screen is declining - only 30 of the 100 top-grossing films of last year had a girl or woman in a lead or co-lead role, compared to 44 in 2022.
🤦🏼♀️ A report recently presented at the Berlin Film Festival suggested that it will be another 61 years before the film industry achieves gender parity in the UK. I will be dead by the time this happens…
🤷🏼♀️ But when it comes to purchasing power, even though women earn less here in the UK, an average of £491 to £725, than men, they still are the predominant decision-makers when it comes to house-holding spending. And in fact 80% of all purchasing decisions are made by women.
💥 Sister Motion exists for all these reasons — to close the gender gap in the production industry by actively hiring and mentoring female talent and ensuring fair and authentic representation of women on screen by casting real women where possible to speak directly to these important female decision makers.
